Job Description

Title:                                 Electrical and Controls Designer

Reports to:                      Operations Manager


Overview:

The primary responsibility of the Electrical & Controls Designer is to work with team members to design electrical controls and PLC programs for equipment. The Electrical & Controls Designer will also be responsible for supervising the installation of equipment and correcting designs and malfunctions. They will also provide training and resources to customers and other coworkers.

Main Duties

  • Ensure all work-related functions are completed according to IRCO’s Health & Safety policies as per the OHSA rules and regulations
  • Work according to the standards listed in the IRCO Handbook
  • All work is to be completed to IRCO’s quality standards
  • Assist Sales in the development of technical proposals
  • Interpret customer requirements to ensure desired functionality is achieved by the design
  • Experienced in the design of high voltage controls, PLC, and sensors
  • PLC programming using RSLogix and HMI programming using FactoryTalk
  • Design according to Engineering Design Standards (CSA, U/L, CE, etc.)
  • Review plans to fully understand all parts that are required for completion of the assembly
  • Advise Purchasing & Operations Manager of all parts that are required to be purchased, or built, for the assembly component, within the required schedule
  • Follow the ECR/ECN process
  • Responsible to provide scope and plans for all subcontracted work issued
  • Responsible for inspecting subcontracted work to ensure it meets engineering specifications and IRCO’s quality standards
  • Ensure all projects are completed within budgeted amounts of cost and time
  • Assist in determining the most efficient and safe build sequence
  • Advise Operations Manager of any programming problems, delays, or rework that could impact delivery
  • Provide technical support for team members as required
  • Assist in developing the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and Site Acceptance Test (SAT) criteria
  • Responsible for Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDIs). Ensure that the equipment operates according to Engineering Specifications and make adjustments if required
  • Responsible for the creation of manuals and component part lists used for all designs, and ensure that copies are made available
  • Maintain data architecture for design files (hard & soft) in an orderly fashion
  • Travel, as required, for Sales functions, as well as for installations, repairs, and upgrades of equipment at customer sites
  • Troubleshoot problems while providing quality customer care for after-sales issues
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager
